Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and explore what brings you to therapy.

We will discuss:

  • What has led you to seek support at this time
  • The challenges or concerns you would like to address
  • Your personal history and experiences that may be relevant to your current situation
  • Your goals and hopes for therapy
  • What you would like to gain from the therapeutic process

This first conversation is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a sense of whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and developing a trusting therapeutic relationship is an important part of meaningful change.

Many people seek therapy during times of distress, transition, uncertainty, or personal growth. You do not need to wait until things feel overwhelming to seek support.

Therapy may be helpful if you are:

  • Feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself
  • Experiencing anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm
  • Repeating patterns in relationships that you would like to understand
  • Navigating a major life transition or change
  • Struggling with self-worth, identity, or confidence
  • Wanting to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours
  • Seeking deeper connection with yourself or others
  • Exploring questions related to sexuality, intimacy, gender, or relationships

Therapy is not about being “fixed” or finding something wrong with you. It is a space to develop greater awareness, understand your experiences, and explore new ways of moving through life.

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances.

Many clients begin with weekly sessions, particularly when starting therapy, as consistent support can help build momentum and create a stronger therapeutic relationship.

Some clients may transition to biweekly or less frequent sessions as their goals evolve.

Together, we will discuss what frequency feels most supportive for your needs and circumstances.

Many extended health benefit plans provide coverage for services offered by Registered Psychotherapists (RP) or Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying), depending on your specific plan.

Coverage varies between insurance providers and individual policies. I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm:

  • Whether psychotherapy services are covered
  • Whether Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) are eligible providers under your plan
  • Your annual coverage amount
  • Any requirements for reimbursement

Upon payment, you will receive a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider if your plan includes psychotherapy coverage.

If you are unsure about coverage, I encourage you to reach out and we can discuss your options.
